Guilherme Roma, 18 years old, is one of the attacking assets of the Académica under-19 team. He arrived from Vilafranquense, after spells at GS Loures and Alverca and immediately assumed a decisive role in the Coimbricense team. In conversation with PLAYERS OF FUTURE, the student forward talks about the team's situation in the championship, adapting to the city of Mondego, its Academics, among other topics.
- How is the start of the season going?
- It was a demanding, tough, but fruitful pre-season. On a personal level it went very well. I was the team's top scorer in the preparation games.
- At a collective level, the outlook is not the best, with one draw and seven defeats in the eight rounds of the championship, right?
- Well, actually, things are not going well although there is trust in the group and trust in the work. We'll have to turn around!
- Have you had difficulties adapting to the team?
- Honestly, within the group I didn't feel any difficulties, yes, at the beginning I felt some difficulties with the micro climate, but today it is completely overcome.
- He played in all the matches up to the 7th round but missed the match in the last round with Benfica... was there any reason for that?
- Well, it's a question I don't have an answer to, I think it was a technical-tactical option. They didn't tell me anything about this very topic. The only thing I know is focus, commitment, discipline and seriousness in how I see football, training and the game. Everything else passes me by. I just accept the decisions made but I may not agree with them, but I'm just a player. I know what I do on a daily basis and I know that I deserve to play and show my football for one reason only... I work, I work a lot with passion and a lot of pleasure.
- How do you evaluate the arrival of the new coach?
- I don't have any information about the new manager yet, as he has only been with us for two weeks. Certainly you want to get the best out of all athletes to obtain the best results. To do this, he, better than anyone, must know how to do it.
- What is it like to live in Coimbra?
- In fact, I still know little about the city. I'm staying at the gym and in addition to training, I try to rest as much as possible. Naturally, I spend practically all my time inside the institution. Whenever I leave the gym, it's just to go do my daily shopping. I strictly comply with the rest levels.
- Are the standards of Académica fans very high?
- Académica is a historic club, a club of choice, a club from Portugal. The fans are at Académica level, they are passionate, demanding and live the club with immense love and passion.
- What are your dreams?
- I'm still a kid, a young man but clearly with dreams... For now, I want to honor and dignify this beautiful emblem, I want to be an integral part of Académica's history. I love what I do, I want to be able to play at the highest level, and I know I will achieve it due to my resilience and focus. I also want to do my university course, as knowledge takes up no space or space. I want to be a top player, I want to be a disciplined man in this world.
